To best serve our individual clients' needs, our prices are based on an hourly rate for actual studio or location set-up and photography, plus the cost of materials (i.e.: film, processing, custom-made backgrounds, etc.).
Because we do not use a pre-set background or lighting set-up, but approach each person's artwork uniquely, we will consult with you to determine how best to portray your work, the desired effect and any budgetary considerations.
If you desire a per-piece price, we will give you the best estimate of the time and materials needed for your particular medium. In general, our pricing system is much more cost efficient than the per-piece expense of comparable studios that specialize in photographing artwork and fine crafts.
Studio photography rates: $80.00/hr. for the first hour (1 hour minimum)
$60/hr. for additional time, rounded to the nearest quarter hour
Location photography rates: $120.00/hr. (3 hours minimum)
Film, processing, and other materials are charged at cost.
Clearstory Studios also offers fine custom black & white processing, proofing and printing for press releases, brochures, portfolios, publication advertising or any of your other needs.
Processing only: $9.00/roll
Processing & Proofing: $15.00/roll
Custom Black & White Prints (up to 8" x 10"):
1st print: $11.00 ; Additional prints: $7.00/ea.
For larger sizes or quantities, please call or email us for a quote.
Whenever possible, we prefer to photography your artwork at our own studios, where we have much better control of both lighting and background than at most off-site locations.
You are more than welcome to be at the studio while we are photographing your work, but Clearstory Studios also offers free pick-up and delivery for all artists in the Greater Pittsburgh Area.
Of course, artwork can also be shipped directly to the studio, as we have many clients across the U.S. If you are outside the Greater Pittsburgh Area and it is inconvenient for you to come to our studios, please call us so that we can give you detailed instructions on how to prepare your artwork for shipping and photography. All shipping and insurance costs are the responsibility of the artist.
Please call us at least a week to ten days in advance of when you wish to have your work photographed. Finished slides can be delivered 2 - 5 days after completion of photography. Allow 7 - 10 working days for black & white or color prints. Rush service is available at additional charge. Our busiest times of year are January, July and September, when the jury deadlines for entries for most of the American Crafts Council (ACC), Rosen, Associated Artists and Three Rivers' shows are usually scheduled.
Much of the time required in properly photographing artwork involves the careful set-up of lighting and backgrounds for each particular medium. The more pieces of a similar size or style you can include in a session, the less expense there will be per piece.
If possible, bring old photos or slides of your work to show us what changes, if any, you would like to have in how your pieces are portrayed. For best results, remove any glass from framed flat artwork that is to be photographed.
Please call us and let us know the nature of your work (particular media, colors, reflective nature of materials, dimensions, number of pieces you wish to have photographed, etc.). We will be happy to meet with you to view your work and discuss any questions you might have.
New Accounts: 50% deposit, net upon receipt.
Established Accounts: Net upon receipt.
If any images have to be re-shot due to technical problems in production or errors in instruction on our part, there will be no additional charge to the client.
Clearstory Studios takes great care in handling all materials and products, but in the case of original artwork presented to us, we are not responsible for its cost or replacement.
Please feel free to contact us if you can use any of our services or if you have any questions. We look forward to working with you!
