"Red Maple Haiku"

This photograph was taken during the solar eclipse in May of 1995. It was creating by placing a piece of rice-paper on the ground and letting the shadow of a Japanese Red Maple tree fall upon it. The interstices of the spaces between the maple leaves acted as hundreds of tiny lenses and focused the image of the moon almost totally occulting the sun in many tiny crescents between the shadows.
