Natural Edge Footed Bowl
Spalted White Ash

Natural-edge bowls are delicately turned - or conceived by individuals who want to do things differently - at times pushing the envelope of creativity. These are some of my thoughts as well, along with the never-ending questions of how this is done. Especially the legs; most clients at first will accuse me of gluing them on. Actually, they are indeed turned on the lathe, then carved and sanded to the final shape to support the bowl.

This beautiful turning weighs in at just 4 ounces and has a wall-thickness of 1/16 of an inch - and it is in the lightness of a piece where you can separate the men from the boys regarding woodturning (mind you, a medium size egg weighs approximately 2 ounces). And, yes - with a finish that I have perfected over many years - it is also functional, as long as it is maintained properly and not washed. Just wiped and dried immediately, this bowl will last indefinitely.
