"Anuenue" Ikebana Flower Display Piece

Anuenue - [AH' noo (w)eh noo (w)eh] - means "rainbow" in the Hawaiian language. As a part of my Asian influence of growing up in Hawaii, we lived in areas that permitted an opportunity to watch and study other cultures. The Japanese use the word "ikebana" that means "make flowers come alive" - the object being for the artist to arrange the flowers to give off the sensation that they are not dead items being displayed, but still alive and growing and giving their essence off to the viewer. Well, I believe that what I've created is a vessel that fosters that philosophy and art-form.

For the skeptics, yes, these pieces are turned on a wood lathe and not created with a bandsaw. Although I classify this as production work, it still gives me great pleasure to produce something that is still individually artistic and functional.Since these pieces are produced on production work basis, the wood species will vary based on what I have on stock at that time (usually: Oak, Ash, Maple, Cherry, Apple and Walnut)
