![]() ![]() Hollow -Turned Vase Spalted Cherry with African Blackwood
Another one of my favorite children, this piece was created from a log that was given to me by a supporter and fan of my work. In generating this turning from a local Pennsylvania wild black cherry log - incorporating the heartwood as well as the sapwood - I was allowed to create a sweet and very thinly-turned hollow vessel. I normally strive for a wall thickness of around 1⁄8 of an inch - this vessel ended up with a wall thickness that was less than 1⁄16 of an inch, making it nearly translucent and weighing a mere eight ounces. To top off this delicate turning, I added a small insert of African Blackwood, giving the finished product a unique and exotic appeal.
