Hollow-Turned Lidded Jar
Spalted Maple with Eucalyptus Burl

A very functional lidded container created from Spalted Maple topped off with a piece of Eucalyptus Burl at the top and as a cap. The Eucalyptus Burl obtained through a Wood dealer specializing in Burls adds a bit of reddish color complementing the pale natural colors of the vessel. This involved a very labor-intensive task of matching and setting all the pieces so that a smooth and continuous transition was resolved.

This is the third lidded container that I've created with a lid replicating a Chinese laborer's hat. Vessels of this nature could be utilized as an urn, or in the manner of my biggest supporter and collector (my wife), as a coin bank.
